Police make desperate plea as they continue to try to identify woman 'in her 70s' whose body was found dumped in bin bag in Liverpool park

Police are calling on the public to help identify an elderly woman found murdered and dumped inside a bin bag in a Liverpool park. Officers were called on Friday afternoon after a member of the public made the grisly discovery in Stanley Park, Anfield, around 5.25pm.The black bag had been placed within the walled garden of the park near the Isla Gladstone conservatory.Despite extensive inquiries, Merseyside Police have yet to identify the victim, who appears to be in her 70s.On Tuesday evening, the force issued a fresh appeal for help. Detective Superintendent Rachel Wilson, who is leading the murder investigation, said in a video posted to X: 'This is a woman whose later years have been stolen from her. She was aged in her 70s so may have been someone's grandmother, someone's sister, someone's auntie or someone's friend. 'She was someone's child once and may have had children herself. She may have been someone's wife, best friend or neighbour. 'We need to know who she is so we can find whoever killed her.' Pictured: Officers searching the area on Tuesday Merseyside Police have yet to identify the victim, who appears to be in her 70s The murder victim was said to be wearing a pink T-shirt similar to the one picturedThe senior officer revealed the woman's body had lain undiscovered for 'a number of weeks' in the park, which lies between Liverpool FC's Anfield stadium and Goodison Park, the former home of Everton FC.Police described the woman as white, 5ft 2in tall, of small build and with strawberry blonde hair. She was also wearing a 'distinctive pink Nike branded T-shirt'.Ms Wilson continued: 'If you've had anyone in your life you have not seen in a while or have lost contact with who has a similar description to this woman, please get in touch. 'You will not be wasting our time or get into any trouble if it turns out not to be the same person.'She also urged people who have 'seen anyone acting suspiciously near the location where the victim was found' to get in touch. Ms Wilson said that residents will 'understandably be worried, shocked and scared' but sought to reassure by revealing a 'large and experienced investigation team' alongside specialist forensic support were leading the hunt for the killer.Uniformed police officers and a mounted unit have also been patrolling the park since the incident was reported last Friday.'We are determined to do everything we can to identify this poor woman and the person who killed her,' said Ms Wilson. 'With the public's help we will.'The police previously revealed that a post-mortem had taken place, but the woman's cause of death was not being made public 'for investigative reasons'. Stanley Park is a large, 110-acre park that is popular with joggers, dog walkers and children enjoying the summer holidays. I hope they find out who did it soon.'It won't stop me running through the park.'Janet Taylor, 55, added: 'It is shocking that the woman has been there for weeks. It is also scary that this happened so close to home. That poor woman!'She added: 'Although it's very unlikely I will be attacked here, it does make me feel more uneasy than before she was found.'Young mum Jojo Miron said: 'I’m petrified to be alone in the park. I couldn’t come here on my own now.'While dog walker Mike Willoughby, 43, said: 'Someone must know who she is. It's likely she is someone's mum or grandmother.'Why has no one missed her?
