The bright orange trailer was taken from a depot, in Cumbernauld, Lanarkshire, last week, with the lorry carrying 41,000 bottles of the country's other national drinkA police spokesman said: 'Inquiries are ongoing into the reported theft of a trailer, containing pallets of soft drink bottles, from a premises on Little Drum Road, Cumbernauld, which happened shortly before 6pm on Sunday, September 27.'He asked for anyone with information to get in touch. The Irn-Bru theft is not the first audacious food and drink heist to hit the headlines. In March, thieves made off with more than 400,000 KitKats in a brazen lorry robbery.A truck carrying 413,793 of 'a new chocolate range' was hijacked while driving through Europe on March 26. The stolen vehicle, carrying 12 tonnes of sweets, left a factory in central Italy, and was raided while it was on its way to Poland. Nestlé did not disclose where exactly the theft took place, but said no one had been hurt. Riffing off KitKat's slogan, Nestlé said in a statement at the time: 'We've always encouraged people to have a break with KitKat. 'But it seems thieves have taken the message too literally and made a break with more than 12 tons of our chocolate. 'Whilst we appreciate the criminals' exceptional taste, the fact remains that cargo theft is an escalating issue for businesses of all sizes. 'With more sophisticated schemes being deployed on a regular basis, we have chosen to go public with our own experience in the hope that it raises awareness of an increasingly common criminal trend'.It is still not known what happened to the KitKats but Nestlé revealed it 'had uncovered leads' that were being 'followed up by the relevant authorities' in April.
