Police are responding to a firearms-related incident in Nelson, RNZ understands.It's understood a gun was stolen as part of the incident.A nearby resident told RNZ there had been at least one casualty.Officers were called to Quarantine Road around midday. There was also a police presence on Parkers Road.A police spokesperson said there was no threat to public safety, however members of the public should avoid the area.Cordons were in place.Police would not provide any further information.A Hato Hone St John spokesperson said it was notified at 12.02pm of an incident on Quarantine Road in Annesbrook. One ambulance and one operations manager responded.St John asked that further enquiries be directed to police.The Transport Agency said State Highway 6 - Tahunanui Drive - between Parkers Road and Green Street had been closed by police, but had since reopened.
