Pokemon's High-End Sean Wotherspoon Plushes Are Available Now

It’s remarkable that, even after 30 years and exhausting so many different designs, The Pokemon Company still comes up with ways to make new plushes. Its latest collaboration with fashion designer Sean Wotherspoon is the latest example of that, and all three of the designs in the new collection are available now at the Pokemon Center. Pokemon's Patchwork Sean Wotherspoon Collection The Pokemon Company Three popular Pokemon have been included in the collection: Charizard, Bulbasaur, and of course, Pikachu. The plushes give those iconic Pokemon truly unique new looks. Looks rooted in and inspired by Wotherspoon’s signature designs, which are typically “well-worn” and vintage. Wotherspoon has applied their go-to design choices to Pokemon plushes by incorporating patchwork and darker shades than you might typically associate with this rather colorful trio of Pokemon. Bulbasaur, for example, has a much darker complexion with a pattern that almost makes it look like the Grass-type is made out of corduroy. The plush's bulb is a combination of various different patterns, again leaning into the patchwork nature of the designs. The Pokemon Company Charizard’s new plush is a little closer to the Fire-type’s original design, although the patchwork elements have been saved for the most logical place on its anatomy - the wings. As is the case with the Wotherspoon Pikachu plush, various parts of Charizard’s body have been designed to look like old material has been replaced with not just something new, but whatever the person repairing had on hand to beautifully create a faux repaired, patchwork effect across every plush in the collection. The Pokemon Company Why Working With Sean Wotherspoon Is A Big Deal The Pokemon Company If you’re wondering where you’ve heard the name Wotherspoon before and struggling to place the designer’s name, the star of the latest out-of-the-box Pokemon collab is best known for their work with Nike. Wotherspoon previously applied their signature style to Nike Air Max sneakers to create the incredibly popular 1/97s. All three of Wotherspoon’s plushes are available now at the Pokemon Center, but since they are limited edition and designed by a well-respected third-party, they naturally demand a higher price than your typical Pokemon plush. They’re $59.99 each. Bad news for Pokemon fans who have taken a shine to them and want to own all three. There is no package deal for the set, which means it’s going to cost you $180 to complete the collection. If you want to pick up some Pokemon plushes for less and don’t care whether they’re patchwork, look vintage, or who they’re designed by, a new range modeled after sleep styles in Pokemon Sleep was announced earlier this month, and they cost a lot less than the Wotherspoon designer plushes that joined them this week.
