It’s likely that this will lead to what can be interpreted as a skin for Pikachu, like the ones seen in the announcement trailer, rather than a proper variant. Despite its popularity and being the franchise’s mascot, I wouldn’t put my bets on it being a must-have in any team in the Gen 10 titles. 12 Clamperl Clamperl alone is quite an underwhelming creature, but it does deserve the merit of recognition for evolving into two fairly cool Water-type Pokémon. There haven’t been leaks about what its regional variant could mean, but it has more potential than Pikachu. One of the things that’s exciting about Clamperl is how a regional variant can open up avenues for new evolutions, too, be they regional variants of Huntail and Gorebyss, or two new Pokémon in Winds and Waves. These could make for interesting picks in teams after Clamperl has evolved. 11 Kecleon While Kecleon is a fun and quirky Gen 3 Pokémon, it does not have tremendous value in parties. Even so, a regional variant could change that, especially if it gains a new type in Pokémon Winds and Waves and, perhaps, evolves into something else within this new form. Seeing a different type of Kecleon that doesn’t have Color Change or Protean may feel weird, but there’s still a lot of potential in that. The creature is extremely popular, a lot of which is thanks to the Psyduck in the Pokémon anime, and seeing a new take on it could open new gameplay possibilities, especially if it steps away from its everlasting headache trope. The leaks about the new Psyduck form in Pokémon Winds and Waves mention that it’ll be an Ice- and Psychic-type, which makes for an interesting type combination to have in your party. It’ll likely use the Special Attack stat, and having both types at its disposal can make it counter tons of enemies, especially if it evolves into something stronger. 9 Drowzee Drowzee, another Gen 1 creature, is rumored to have a regional variant in Winds and Waves, and that could make for a nice option for your party. It’s unclear what its typing will be, but it will possibly retain the Psychic-type that makes it notable. If it gains another type on top of that, the new Drowzee form could make for a nice matchup that finally makes it suitable for teams. Of course, this decision could impact its potential evolution, be it a regional form of Hypno or something else. 8 Nincada Nincada and its evolutions aren’t near the prime of competitive choices in parties, but they are some fun picks from Gen 3. However, they could get better in Gen 10 with the rumored new regional variants for the base Pokémon. The Bug-type creature could not only get a new visual, but a different typing, which could affect its evolutions, too. Shedinja’s Wonder Guard makes it a fun choice to disrupt opponents’ strategies, while Ninjask’s speed can obliterate enemies before they move, so if they change their moveset with new types, they could be better options. 7 Houndour A new regional variant for Houndour could provide an interesting type combination in Pokémon Winds and Waves. It’s unclear if it would sacrifice its Fire-type or Dark-type (or potentially both), but Houndour and its evolution, Houndoom, are reliable picks for several of the games they appear in. This isn’t only due to how great they look, but how they play too. If they retain those elements, even with the type changes, Houndour and its evolution in Gen 10 could be one of those obvious must-catches in the early game that you carry well into the endgame. 6 Salandit There have been rumors that Salandit will have a new regional variant in Gen 10, and that it could address the gender lock it has held for the past few generations. The regular version of Salandit can only evolve if it is a female, becoming Salazzle. The leaks mention that the new Salandit will be a Poison- and Dragon-type. This could potentially evolve into another new creature. Most Dragon-type Pokémon are always worth using or having thanks to the move options they get and their stats, so it may not be too different with this new evolution. 5 Shellos A regional variant for Shellos already seems a lot more enticing than most. The Gen 4 Pokémon already has different forms, and if it were to gain another, that would be of great value, especially if its evolution turns out to be a tank like Gastrodon. It’s unclear if the new Shellos form in Pokémon’s Gen 10 titles will actually evolve into a Gastrodon or something else entirely, but if it follows the traditional creature’s path, it’ll be a great pick for your party. It may be wise to catch Shellos as soon as possible. 4 Onix Among the leaked regional variants is a mention of Onix, which could make a glorious comeback in Gen 10.
