As part of that, a certain nostalgia has definitely overtaken the community as a whole, who have been returning to the older games in the series by their thousands. The only issue with that is that we have all played those games through to completion hundreds of times in their base form, which is happily where fan projects come into plan. ROM hacks and fan games really have become a genre of their own over the years, and the latest release in that pantheon really does do a lot with the original formula. Game Freak As first noted by Pokémon Fangame News, Pokémon Timeless Diamond and Spaceless Pearl are out now, building on the legacy of their namesake games with intuitive changes and some additions from Platinum that just make sense from a gameplay perspective. The big change is that the regional Pokedex has been expanded significantly, with 242 Pokémon available to capture, including some of the aforementioned additions from Platinum. There are also some story additions drawn from the latter, as well as entirely original narrative creations designed to complement what the games were going for. The other really exciting new mechanic is the inclusion of space-time distortions, which are special and rare encounters where the player can discover Legendary Pokémon. It's a really fun new delivery method for the most powerful creatures in the game, and it gives the ROM hack its fresh nomenclature as well. Outside of that, you can also rematch Gym Leaders after you have completed the game, as well as the Elite Four, if you want to try out different rosters and combinations for your next run. Overall, it's easily one of the most exciting fan games of recent years, and there are already plenty of folks downloading and trying out, just days after its initial release. The only thing you'll want to make sure of is that you have a legitimate copy of Diamond or Pearl at home, just to keep everything above board from a legal perspective. That's scheduled to launch in 2027, but a reveal is more likely to come towards the end of this year.
