Not only do most gaming franchises never get anywhere near that kind of longevity, it has also served as an opportunity to celebrate everything that made the series great over the last three decades. A big part of that push has come in the TCG, where The Pokémon Company released a special set commemorating some of the most popular cards over that time, as well as bringing plenty of new ones to the fore. Couple that in with the fact that the price of cards has come down significantly due to the manufacturer printing more than ever, and the hobby has quickly become considerably more affordable and accessible for those who buy singles to keep them for their collections. All in all, it has been a huge win for the average Joe so far, and if you are looking to get involved on the fun before it goes away forever, the latest set has a couple of cards in particular that really stand out in a crowded field. In case you missed it, the Pokémon 30th Anniversary Celebration TCG set comes with all sorts of brilliant cards, but one of the most exciting new revelations is the Futuristic Rare. This entirely fresh rarity is only available on two cards in the set, the Mew and Mewtwo, the illustrations for which have been designed by well-known Japanese artist YOSHIROTTEN. In sharing a little about their intentions behind the new designs, and why they look so starkly different from anything we have seen in the TCG so far, The Pokémon Company posted the following statement: "In 30th Celebration, fans can look forward to discovering an all-new card rarity, Futuristic rare, which will feature new visuals illustrated by the renowned Japanese artist YOSHIROTTEN. Each Futuristic rare card will depict Pokémon in striking artwork evocative of hope toward an unknown future." Though the manufacturers themselves don't publish exact pull rate figures, those who open a lot of packs have made some estimates. Currently, it seems as though one of the two cards will show up in around 1 of 120 packs, which would make them about 1.5x as rare as the usual SIRs. Despite the offering being less appealing to scalpers than ever before, you may well still struggle to get hold of packs with any kind of regularity. Those in charge of the Pokémon TCG have done a great job taking steps to cut those who are simply buying for profit, but the fact remains that the franchise is immensely popular, and even the purchasing power of genuine collectors is enough to make stores run out everywhere.
