Prime Minister Narendra Modi will visit Delhi’s Shri Ram College of Commerce (SRCC) campus on September 5 as the Chief Guest at an event marking the 100 years of the college, a source from SRCC has confirmed to India Today Digital.Union Education Minister Pralhad Joshi will also visit the campus for the event. The event is coinciding with National Teachers' Day.The visit comes at a time when the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) is stepping up its outreach to younger Indians, particularly Gen Z, whose political and social preferences are increasingly becoming part of the national conversation. For SRCC, however, the visit also marks a return. Prime Minister Modi had last visited the college in 2013, when he was the chief minister of Gujarat. FROM A 2013 VISIT TO A CENTENARY RETURNPM Modi had met with the college earlier this year when he met the Governing Body and a delegation from SRCC at his residence in April. The meeting was held to mark SRCC’s 100th anniversary. During the interaction, PM Modi also released a special commemorative postage stamp marking the college’s centenary. His September 5 visit will now bring that centenary association to the college campus itself. The event will not be limited to the current batch of students. Former principals, old faculty members and SRCC alumni have also been invited, along with present students.SPECIAL PROTECTION GROUP ALREADY ON CAMPUSPreparations for the Prime Minister’s visit are already underway at SRCC.The source told us that Special Protection Group (SPG) personnel are already present on the campus as security arrangements are being put in place ahead of the September 5 event. The presence of alumni and former faculty members is also expected to give the event a wider institutional character, bringing together different generations associated with the college. For the BJP, engaging with young Indians has become an important part of its wider outreach strategy. A visit by the Prime Minister to one of Delhi University’s prominent commerce colleges places him directly before a young, educated audience.- EndsPublished By: Princy ShuklaPublished On: Sep 2, 2026 19:10 IST
