PM condoles Rupi Soren's death, says she always worked to empower tribal communities

She always worked for empowering tribal communities. In this hour of grief, my thoughts are with Hemant Ji, Kalpana Ji and their entire family,” PM Modi said in a social media post.Rupi Soren, 80, died at a private hospital in Jharkhand on Wednesday evening. She was the wife of Jharkhand Mukti Morcha (JMM) founder and former Chief Minister, the late Shibu Soren.She had been in critical condition and was on ventilator support. Dr Nitesh Priya, Director of Hill View Hospital and Research Centre, said Rupi Soren died around 8.30 pm. She had been admitted to the hospital on September 18 with breathing difficulty. “CM Hemant Soren’s mother Rupi Soren, who was admitted here, passed away around 8.30 pm. She was admitted to the hospital on September 18 with breathing difficulty,” Dr Priya told PTI.Rupi Soren was critical with multiple complications, and a team of doctors was constantly monitoring her condition. Doctors put her on ventilator support on Wednesday. Hemant Soren, who visited his mother earlier in the day, shared an emotional message on social media.“After Baba left, Maa was my greatest shelter. Today, even that shelter has merged into the lap of nature. Maa...” he said.A JMM leader said Rupi Soren’s last rites will be conducted at Nemra in neighbouring Ramgarh district on Thursday.LEADERS CONDOLE RUPI SOREN’S DEATHJharkhand Governor Santosh Kumar Gangwar condoled Rupi Soren’s death and extended his condolences to Hemant Soren and his family.“In this hour of grief, my deepest condolences are with the chief minister and his entire family. Om Shanti!” Gangwar said.Senior Congress leader Rahul Gandhi and AICC president Mallikarjun Kharge also condoled her death and described it as heartbreaking.“The news of the demise of Jharkhand Chief Minister Shri Hemant Soren ji’s mother, Smt. Rupi Soren ji, is extremely heartbreaking.
