Pluribus Season 2 Filming Timeline Gets New Update From Vince Gilligan

Apple TV had already greenlit two seasons of Pluribus when it picked up the series in 2022, but even then, the development process is still arduous, with the writers still working on the scripts. While Gilligan doesn't know when the show is coming back, it appears that a late 2027 or 2028 release window is the most realistic outcome. During an Apple TV conversation with Rhea Seehorn, Bryan Cranston and Bob Odenkirk, Gilligan said that he and his team are "about halfway through figuring out" season 2. He clarified that this doesn't mean they're halfway through making it. "It'll be months before we start shooting it again, but we're looking forward to season 2 of Pluribus," he added. After Odenkirk said that he can't wait to see where the storyline goes next in Pluribus season 2, Gilligan admitted he's "looking forward to finding out where it goes too." The actor added that the creator and executive producer "sweating every day" means the end result will be "good TV." Bob Odenkirk: "I can't wait to see where it goes. I love the idea that you're sweating every day." Vince Gilligan: "Oh, we're sweating every day." Bob Odenkirk: "I know that means good TV." Vince Gilligan: "We're looking forward to finding out where it goes too. But we're plugging away. We're about halfway through figuring out, but it doesn't mean halfway through making it. It'll be months before we start shooting it again, but we're looking forward to season 2 of Pluribus." Pluribus is Gilligan's latest series after creating The Lone Gunmen, Breaking Bad, Better Call Saul and Battle Creek, and directing El Camino: A Breaking Bad Movie. While he was a writer, executive producer and director on the iconic sci-fi show The X-Files, which starred David Duchovny and Gillian Anderson, Breaking Bad took Gilligan's career to new heights. The AMC drama stars Cranston as Walter White, a man who starts making meth as a way to make money after being diagnosed with cancer. Odenkirk joined Breaking Bad during its second season as Saul Goodman and went on to lead the spinoff Better Call Saul, which also stars Seehorn. After Better Call Saul ended in 2022, he created Pluribus and cast Seehorn in the starring role as Carol Sturka, who lives in a world impacted by an alien virus that forces everyone into a hive mind mentality. Carol, however, is immune from the virus, which affects her ability to get by in society. Seehorn's co-stars are Karolina Wydra, Carlos-Manuel Vesga, Miriam Shor, Samba Schutte, Menik Gooneratne and Darinka Arones. The nine-episode first season of Pluribus, which is Certified Fresh on Rotten Tomatoes with a nearly-perfect critic score of 99% and an audience score of 68%, became the biggest TV series in Apple TV history. Seehorn's performance as Carol earned her a Golden Globe for Best Performance by an Actress in a Television Series – Drama and a Critics' Choice Award for Best Actress in a Drama Series. The show itself received a Peabody and is currently nominated in several categories at the upcoming Emmys, including for Outstanding Drama Series, Outstanding Lead Actress in a Drama Series (Seehorn), Outstanding Supporting Actor in a Drama Series (Vesga) and Outstanding Supporting Actress in a Drama Series (Wydra). Gilligan is in the running in some of the writing and directing categories. The Creative Arts Emmys will be held on September 5 and 6, with the Mariska Hargitay-hosted Primetime Emmys set to air live on September 14 on NBC. The timing of Pluribus' return to Apple TV remains a major question mark, but Gilligan and the writers are working hard on the scripts, with production expected to get underway several months from now.
