Please Just Tell Me Who the Next James Bond Is Already

2 min readSome movie announcements arrive as a complete surprise. Ryan Gosling as Ghost Rider? Very cool idea. Nathan Fielder secretly spending weeks staring into Elizabeth Holmes’s eyes for You Can See Everything? Amazing. In other instances, film studios will delay an announcement everyone knows is coming until their audience finds itself sucked up into the maelstrom and spun around until they’re so dizzy that they’re puking up that morning’s Cheerios. Maybe they wish they never even got excited in the first place. That’s where I’m at with the current race for James Bond, which has reportedly come down to three actors: Jack Lowden (Slow Horses), Callum Turner (One Night Only), and Josh O’Connor (Disclosure Day). The three finalists were announced via Puck three weeks ago on October 22, along with a mysterious fourth actor whose identity has not yet been revealed, if he even exists.Since then, there have been no official updates from Amazon/MGM—which acquired full control of the franchise in February 2025—but there have been dozens upon dozens of interviews from former Bond actors as well as anyone remotely associated with the prior 25 Bond films and novels, with each interviewee expressing that all three men up for the role would probably be great.“All the men who are on the list now are actors I admire,” Pierce Brosnan recently told Vanity Fair. Maybe true but after a year of this guessing game, it just isn’t fun anymore. Even worse, no one seems concerned with even making it fun.NBC//Getty ImagesCallum Turner flipping pizzas on Jimmy Fallon instead of telling us whether or nor he’s James Bond.“It's an incredibly bizarre pinch-me moment... even being uttered in that same sentence and being considered for something like that,” Josh O’Connor told BBC News on Tuesday. “But I am afraid, there is nothing to say beyond that.”Callum Turner was even more direct: “I’m not going to comment on it just because there’s no point in commenting on it in this moment,” he told Esquire UK in August. Then, Lowden uttered “Oh, Christ” in an interview earlier this week when he finally addressed the rumors. “It’s all very flattering. It’s nice to be mentioned—for any role—and I’m just not really going to add to the noise.”Are they not allowed to even say they want the role? Am I supposed to act excited when they finally announce if they don’t even seem excited themselves? Do we even want to see a film with Turner, Lowden, or O’Connor as James Bond? Please add to the noise, guys. I’m begging you. It’s time to tell us.
