It marks the end of an absolutely jam-packed summer this year after GTA 6's major gameplay reveal on Netflix last week, with Rockstar's blockbuster shaping up to be one of the defining PS5 releases of the generation. June's State of Play earlier this summer delivered major updates for Marvel's Wolverine, the reveal of God of War Laufey and Until Dawn 2, and release-date news for games like Control Resonant. Summer Game Fest subsequently brought another wave of PS5 announcements, while August featured an entire Phantom Blade Zero-focused State of Play and Gamescom showcased even more major upcoming PlayStation releases earlier this month. PlayStation's next official State of Play is set to arrive this Thursday, September 3, 2026. The event will take place at 9:00AM Eastern and will be "concluding with an extended look at the vast world of Final Fantasy VII Revelation from our friends at Square Enix." Other major reveals and announcements are planned as well, and the event will be followed up by another exciting State of Play Japan event hosted by Yuki Kaji, with deep dives on games from the Japanese and Asian market. The two broadcasts will air back-to-back on PlayStation's official YouTube and Twitch channels, with the main State of Play featuring updates from both PlayStation Studios and third-party developers. Sony has not revealed exactly which games will appear beyond Final Fantasy VII Revelation, leaving plenty of room for surprise announcements, new trailers, release dates, and gameplay showcases during the event. The initial State of Play will be presented in English, with Japanese subtitles also available. Immediately afterward, State of Play Japan will shift the focus specifically toward developers across Japan and the wider Asian market. Hosted once again by prolific voice actor Yuki Kaji, the presentation will feature new gameplay, announcements, and deeper looks at upcoming titles from studios in the region. The Japan broadcast will be presented in Japanese with English subtitles, making both showcases easily accessible to international audiences. Sony has not confirmed the runtime for either presentation, nor has it provided a complete list of participating developers or games, meaning most of September 3's lineup remains under wraps for now. As such, it's shaping up to be an exciting week for PlayStation gamers. Location Virtual Description State of Play is Sony Interactive Entertainment’s live-streamed showcase, launched in March 2019, used to unveil trailers, gameplay, and updates for PlayStation and related products.
