Sign in to your ScreenRant account The PlayStation 5 era has had some strong exclusives, but it's also faced plenty of criticisms about the rate at which they arrive. Compared to past PlayStation generations, there hasn't been quite as much to play, and a lot of the games that have been released have fallen into the same vague genre of Sony "cinematic" titles. Most recently, Marvel's Wolverine launched in September to a generally mixed reception, with much of the criticism focusing on the game's extensive hand-holding. Luckily, players won't have to wait very long until the next PS5 exclusive, giving the platform a chance to win some fans back over. As announced on the official PlayStation Blog in September, the horror game Until Dawn 2 will come to PlayStation 5 on January 28. This will be another true exclusive, with no established plans for a PC or Xbox release at any later date. Until Dawn 2 follows the concept established in the original Until Dawn, which takes heavy inspiration from slasher films and horror video games alike. The game is primarily focused on making choices, which can ultimately determine whether members of the young adult cast end up living or dying. While the original Until Dawn was developed by Supermassive Games, the sequel is in the hands of Firesprite, a studio primarily known for PlayStation VR titles like Horizon Call of the Mountain. If that seems like a concern, Firesprite has noted that the story was crafted with the help of AdHoc Studio, which made waves with the release of the narrative-heavy Dispatch last year. Supermassive Games, meanwhile, released The Conjuring: Unspoken this month, an interactive horror game for Netflix based on the hit film franchise. The lead-up to the release of Until Dawn 2 has been met with some criticism, but the most recent trailer seemed to win over some previously skeptical fans. Although it's far from the first successor to Until Dawn — other Supermassive releases like The Quarry and The Dark Pictures anthology have built on its ideas — this is the first to directly follow the original game. New characters are involved, but it's connected to the original events, and Peter Stormare is returning to the role of Dr. Hill. PlayStation also has a semi-exclusive on the way before Until Dawn 2, as the wuxia action game Phantom Blade Zero is set to launch on October 29. It's also coming to PC on the same date and might eventually make its way to Xbox, but for now, the PS5 is the only console that it will be available on. Beyond that, more exclusives like God of War Laufey and Intergalactic: The Heretic Prophet are still on the horizon for the PlayStation 5.
