Over the past few years (especially following the success of Astro Bot), it’s been rumoured that PlayStation was looking to bring back some of its classic franchises that have gone a long time without a new game. There are far too many of these series to count, but Sly Cooper and Ape Escape are the two that seem to be brought up the most. That rumour gained some grounding earlier this week when reliable insider NateTheHate claimed that Ape Escape was indeed coming back, but not with Team Asobi at the helm like many assumed. That hinted it might be someone outside of PlayStation’s wheelhouse, something that another insider has claimed is the case. PlayStation Is Looking To Third-Parties To Bring Back Sly Cooper, Ape Escape, And Killzone Could Thieves In Time’s Cliffhanger Finally Get Resolved? As pointed out by Redditor AngieK22 on the GamingLeaksAndRumours subreddit, a ResetEra thread about Nate’s Ape Escape claim was recently commented on by thisiserfan, who notably leaked Sons of Sparta before it was revealed. In the thread, they claim that Ape Escape is one of three series that PlayStation is taking pitches for from third parties. The other two are Killzone and, most interestingly of all for someone with his symbol inked onto his skin, Sly Cooper. A new Killzone has actually been discussed this week, but PlayStation seemingly bringing back Sly is brand-new information. As mentioned in the thread, it would make sense for Sneaky Devil Studios, formed by Sanzaru Games members, to be involved in a new Sly. Alongside that claim, thisiserfan later said that they believe we’ll see “the first wave of this new initiative” around the PS6 launch window, which means there’s still quite the wait ahead of us. Still, it’s very good news to hear that PlayStation is even thinking about bringing back some of its classic series. Let’s just hope Jak gets in there at some point too, especially with the movie apparently coming up.
