Platform shelters in 10 railway stations on the west section to be replaced with new ones

The suburban trains on the west section is operated from Moore Market complex station to Tiruvallur and Arakkonam via Avadi. The Southern Railway has proposed to replace the old shelters in the platforms of 10 railway stations including Pattabhiram, Pattabhiram Siding, Pattabhiram E Depot, Annanur, Veppampattu, Egattur, Putlur, Kadambathur, Senji Panambakkam, and Mosur. A senior official of Southern Railway said the platform shelters would be replaced at a cost of ₹10.89 crore. The shelters are being renovated as part of the project to provide minimum essential amenities such as paving of damaged platforms, improving water facility and accessway in 23 railway stations. The Chennai division of Southern Railway has already started work in Annanur and Pattabhiram railway stations after the tender was awarded to a contractor in September. Commuters have been complaining about the poor access facilities in the Pattabhiram Siding railway station, which has been completely covered by wild bushes. R. Sritharan, a resident of Annanur, said the railway station, serving thousands of office-goers, has been suffering from a leaking platform shelter and wanted the work to be completed before the onset of Northeast monsoon.
