PRINCESS Diana’s brother Earl Charles Spencer is facing legal action over claims he has written “demonstrable lies” about broadcaster Piers Morgan. I would like the complete lie you have published about me and those photographs to be removed from your book.” Most read in Showbiz In another recollection, the Earl describes being “flabbergasted” to learn that newspaper editors had been asked to come Princess Diana’s funeral in 1997. He alleges when the then senior private secretary to the Queen called to withdraw the invitation. “The only one who sounded surly, as opposed to merely confused or embarrassed, was Piers Morgan of the Mirror, who snarled with annoyance before he hung up,” Spencer wrote. He goes on to claim he assumed Morgan must be feeling “guilt” over the leotard photographs of Diana published four years earlier. However, Piers said a “simple Google search” proves the Sunday Mirror published the pictures of Diana in November 1993 – two years before he started working at the Daily Mirror. In a post on X, Piers wrote: “BREAKING: I am taking legal action against Earl Spencer and his publishers over demonstrable lies he has written about me in his new book, which call into question his credibility as a supposed ‘historian’.” The princess’s brother has also accused King Charles of gaslighting him and hissing “We’ll forget her soon enough” after Di’s 1997 death. The Palace said last week that “fraternal grief” had clouded the Earl’s judgment in a damning statement.
