Pickleball comedy ‘The Dink’ premieres on Apple TV

Apple TV subscribers can now watch ‘The Dink,’ the platform’s new star-studded sports comedy produced by Ben Stiller. Watch the trailer below. ’The Dink’ premieres on Apple TV ‘The Dink’ is now available to stream on Apple TV, starring Jake Johnson (Maximum Pleasure Guaranteed), Mary Steenburgen (Step Brothers), Ed Harris (The Abyss), Chloe Fineman (Home Team), Lennon Markham (Horrible Bosses 2), Chris Parnell (Lorne), and Ben Stiller (Stiller & Meara: Nothing Is Lost), among others. The movie was written by Sean Clements (Workaholics) and directed by Josh Greenbaum (Becoming Bond), with Stiller and Johnson among the billed producers. Here’s Apple TV on The Dink’s premise: Washed up former tennis prodigy Dusty Boyd (Jake Johnson) has been reduced to coaching unruly children at his father Chuck’s (Ed Harris) suburban country club. Desperate for his father’s approval, Dusty blindly supports Chuck’s vendetta against the new craze taking over the club: pickleball. But when Dusty reaggravates an old injury, taking away his ability to play tennis, he resorts to the unthinkable in the name of rehab. He not only tries pickleball, but, thanks in part to his enchanting new partner, Candace (Mary Steenburgen), he finds himself actually enjoying it. Torn between two worlds, Dusty is forced to finally face the ghosts of his past athletic failures, including his childhood nemesis, Andy Roddick (Andy Roddick). Ultimately, Dusty is drawn into a desperate battle for the future of the club, his father’s affection and his very identity. The movie joins an ever-expanding catalog of sports content on Apple TV, including ‘F1 The Movie,’ ‘Fight for Glory: 2024 World Series,’ ‘Onside: Major League Soccer,’ ‘Messi’s World Cup: The Rise of a Legend,’ and ‘Stephen Curry: Underrated.’ among others.
