Sign in to your TheGamer account Hideo Kojima’s Physint is now being published by Xbox after the game was unceremoniously cut from PlayStation’s portfolio. Kojima has been fielding questions in the aftermath of the publisher switch, including one of the most pressing of all - does the way PlayStation treated Kojima mean Physint will be an Xbox console exclusive? Physint's Potential Xbox Exclusivity Custom image by Steven Garrard using Xbox Helix and Physint assets IGN had the opportunity to ask Kojima a lot of questions about the Physint situation, and potential Xbox exclusivity was one of the topics broached. Kojima didn’t shy away from the question, nor did he give a definitive answer, but that’s just because he’s not the one with the authority to give it. “I don’t know the answer to that – that would be a question for Xbox,” Kojima answered when asked about Physint potentially releasing on PlayStation, confirming that Xbox now has the final say on where the game will show up. That presumably applies to OD too, Kojima’s other upcoming release that has been under the Xbox umbrella from the start. “In previous updates from Xbox, I thought that they have this kind of stance where they want to deliver to as many gamers as possible, no matter what the platform is,” Kojima added, implying that Physint may well be available on whatever the latest PlayStation console is once the game is finally released. However, that Kojima comment sounds like it may have been said at a time before Xbox returned to keeping some of its first-party games console exclusives. That return to the old way of doing things is now right around the corner and will kick off with Gears of War: E-Day. After pivoting to a game plan where all of its games are available on as many platforms as possible, E-Day will mark a return to Xbox keeping some games for itself. Clockwork Revolution is the only other first-party Xbox game confirmed to be a console exclusive at present. It’s difficult to gauge whether Kojima would even want Physint to release on PlayStation. In the same interview, the industry veteran claims he still doesn’t know why PlayStation suddenly decided to cancel Physint. Kojima says PlayStation contacted him in June to break the bad news, and he hasn’t heard from them since. There were reports following the news that Xbox picked up Physint claiming PlayStation’s decision was fueled by a ballooning budget, missed deadlines, and Death Stranding not performing as well as the platform holder had hoped. Kojima Productions has since rubbished those reports.
