Sign in to your TheGamer account Despite pre-orders just opening, Phantom Blade Zero still has no sign of a physical release and was even highlighted next to a digital-only PS5 in its latest trailer. Even though PlayStation isn’t officially ceasing physical disc production until early 2028, it seems likely that the impending end of things is going to stop a lot of publishers from even bothering. Just look at Final Fantasy 7 Revelation, which is set for early 2027 but recently had its director admit he wasn’t sure it was getting one. Of course, not every game gets a physical release anyway, but it’s a surprise to see a game as highly-anticipated as Phantom Blade Zero not have one confirmed despite being a PlayStation console exclusive that’s right around the corner. Things could change, but a new trailer for the game has spread even more doubt. Phantom Blade Zero Pre-Orders Advertised Alongside Digital-Only PS5 It Could Just Be A Marketing Move, But I Doubt It Earlier today, the official pre-order trailer for Phantom Blade Zero was released alongside confirmation of a State of Play coming later this month. As pointed out by Twitter user Genki_JPN, there’s a weird element to the pre-order trailer that makes it look unlikely the game is getting a physical release any time soon. At the end of the new trailer for Phantom Blade Zero, a quick PlayStation Console Exclusive card pops up, outlining the game’s timed exclusivity. This has appeared in other trailers, but the version in the new trailer features a digital-only PS5, instead of the regular disc-supporting PS5 that appeared previously. It’s not clear if this is something PlayStation is doing from now on since it recently confirmed a big move away from discs, or something that’s specific to Phantom Blade Zero. Either way, though, it’s a good sign that the game isn’t going to be available on disc, despite launching later this year and well before disc production ceases. Genki_JPN pointed out that Phantom Blade Zero is self-published, so it might be a simple case of waiting to see how the game does or still needing to find a publisher. Play Asia does have a pre-order listing for a physical version of the game as it stands, but it’s not been outright confirmed by S-GAME just yet.
