Tolkien and was brought to life in Peter Jackson's Oscar-winning film trilogy, and now has prequels, animated features, and TV series. Its success easily makes it one of the most successful media empires in the world, and now the fanbase can rejoice as the beloved filmmaker Jackson is set to return with two highly anticipated LoTR releases. The Lord of the Rings: The Hunt for Gollum is currently filming in New Zealand and returning to some iconic sets. However, there are multiple LoTR projects currently in the works, and Jackson may have given the fanbase a huge boost with some big development plans. During the Sitges Film Festival, filmmaker Jackson was presented with the 2026 Honorary Grand Prize, where he shared some major development updates on his return to the beloved Lord of the Rings franchise. "We have The Shadow of the Past, which is in the scriptwriting stage. The Hunt for Gollum is almost finished filming. I think there are about two weeks of shooting left. And we've also already written the script for Tintin 2, the second Tintin film. That will be the next film I make." More to come...
