It is reported that a white Hyundai i30 car was joining the A1 from the junction with the B1342 when it hit a car transporter lorry. A section of the A1 was closed for several hours while recovery and investigative work could take place. The family of the pensioner, who died at the scene, have been informed and were supported by police. A full investigation has now been launched by Northumbria Police, with Sergeant Alex Partington, of the Roads Policing Unit, saying: “This is a tragic incident and our thoughts are firmly with the family and friends of the man who sadly lost his life in yesterday’s collision. “We are now carrying out a range of enquiries to ascertain exactly what took place. “As part of our investigation, we’d like to hear from anyone who was in the area at the time, in particular those with dash cam footage of the moments leading up to the collision.
