Pegula leads Eala as rain suspends DC Open final

Jessica Pegula holds a one-set lead over Alexandra Eala in a rain-affected DC Open final that saw play suspended until Monday.After severe thunderstorms delayed the initial match start time by three hours, world No 3 Pegula got off to a strong start, taking the first set 6-4 and delighting her home crowd, before rising star Eala took a 2-1 second-set lead against the American. However, the thunderstorms returned and delayed the resumption of the match for more than five hours, forcing organisers to call play off for the day, with the women's final set to resume at 5pm BST on Monday, before Taylor Fritz faces Rafael Jodar in the men's final no earlier than 6pm, both live on Sky Sports. After saving four break points at 2-2 in the opening set, the Frenchman applied pressure on Shapovalov's serve and earned the decisive break at 4-3 before serving out the set.Gea carried that momentum into the second set, dictating with his shot-making and court coverage while breaking early in the third game.
