Paul Pelosi, 86, banned from driving for six months and must complete 10-day work program after hit-and-run

Paul Pelosi, the husband of former House Speaker Nancy Pelosi, has been suspended from driving for six months and must complete a work program after entering a no-contest plea on Tuesday to a misdemeanor charge of hit-and-run.The 86-year-old was cited after his brown convertible collided with an unoccupied car legally parked along the roadside on July 3, according to a statement released by the Napa County Sheriff’s Office. Pelosi was traveling through Yountville, California—a community located in the center of wine country—at the time of the crash. He briefly paused after impact before reportedly motoring off. No injuries occurred during the crash.Under state regulations, drivers involved in crashes that result in property damage must remain at the scene to exchange license and vehicle details. Prosecutors in Napa County filed a misdemeanor hit-and-run charge against Pelosi for failing to do so, alongside an infraction for making an illegal turn.Paul Pelosi, left, and Nancy Pelosi arrive at the Pre-Grammy Gala on Jan. 31, 2026 (AP Photo/Chris Pizzello)Authorities said alcohol did not play a role in the crash. On Tuesday, prosecutors confirmed that Pelosi entered a no-contest plea to both the misdemeanor and the infraction. A judge handed down a sentence of one year of summary probation—a form of unsupervised release that dispenses with regular check-ins with a probation officer. He was ordered him to complete a 10-day work program and had his driving privileges suspended for six months. In addition to court fees and fines, Pelosi paid approximately $11,200 in restitution to the owner of the car that he hit.“Mr. Paul Pelosi has personally apologized to the owner of the vehicle and assured them that he would take responsibility for the damage to their vehicle," a spokesperson for the Pelosi family stated to KRON-TV back in July. The case comes two years after Pelosi entered a guilty plea to misdemeanor driving under the influence charges in Napa County in 2022. That conviction carried a sentence of three years of probation and five days in custody. He served two days in jail, earned two days of credit for good behavior, and fulfilled his remaining single day through a work program at the local courthouse.During that previous period of probation, Pelosi was ordered to pay thousands of dollars in victim restitution and court fines, enroll in a three-month program for drunk drivers, and fit his vehicle with an ignition interlock device requiring a breath sample to verify sobriety prior to starting the engine.
