TIDCO house beneficiaries, who had deposited between ₹50,000 and ₹1 lakh nine years ago, are still awaiting allotment, says CPI(M) leader Ch. Babu Rao. | Photo Credit: File Photo CPI(M) State secretariat member Ch. Babu Rao has demanded that the Andhra Pradesh government distribute house-site pattas to all eligible homeless poor families, saying that the proposed ‘Pattabhishekam for the Poor’ programme should not be used for political campaigning.Addressing the media at the party office here on Monday, Mr. Babu Rao said the government should distribute house sites and pattas to at least one lakh homeless poor people in Vijayawada and NTR district. He claimed that of the 24,042 pattas proposed to be distributed, 21,450, or about 90 per cent, were pattas issued earlier, while only 2,586 were new. He alleged that 12,710 beneficiaries who had received pattas under previous governments were being included again, while names had been changed in another 8,746 cases.Mr. Babu Rao claimed that more than one lakh poor people in Vijayawada and the district were living in rented houses, while another 50,000 were residing on land belonging to irrigation, endowments and railway departments or along the Krishna river and canals. He demanded that their claims be considered, particularly those who had lived there for decades. He also alleged that beneficiaries of TIDCO houses, who had deposited between ₹50,000 and ₹1 lakh nearly nine years ago, were still awaiting allotment. He sought completion of the pending works and allotment of the houses at the earliest.Alleging irregularities in the allotment of houses constructed under the Jawaharlal Nehru National Urban Renewal Mission (JNNURM), he demanded an inquiry into what he claimed was a ₹100-crore scam and sought that the beneficiary lists be published.Mr. Babu Rao opposed conditions delaying full rights over the new pattas and sought financial assistance of at least ₹5 lakh per beneficiary for the construction of houses. He said the CPI(M) would organise protests if pattas and house sites were not provided to all eligible poor families.CPI(M) city secretaries Boi Satyababu, B. Ramana Rao and P. Krishna participated in the media conference. Published - September 28, 2026 08:10 pm IST
