William Shatner, Hugh Jackman and More Stars Pay Tribute to Patrick Stewart After DeathDaniel Stewart is remembering his father Patrick Stewart's journey towards the final frontier. The son of the Star Trek icon commemorated his father one day after he died Oct. 28 at the age of 86 following a brief battle with Alzheimer's Disease and Lewy Body Dementia. Daniel shared a throwback photo to X Oct. 29 of him giving Patrick a piggyback ride while on stage together. The father-son duo are smiling in the photo, in which Patrick is sporting a head of light gray hair and a mustache. While Daniel didn't caption the image, plenty of fans took to the replies to also honor Patrick, who shared Daniel and Sophie, 54, with ex-wife Sheila Falconer. "Daniel, I am so sorry to hear of the loss of your father," one person wrote. "He was loved and admired by so many people. I wish the best for you and your family as you grieve." A second person added, "Deepest sympathies and condolences on the loss of your father. He was a great man and an incredible actor. He will be greatly missed and never forgotten."In the years leading up to his death, Patrick had opened up about being estranged from his kids. "There’s not a day that goes by that I’m not pained by the memory of my children," he told the Irish Independent in 2023, "who they were and by a sense of responsibility that they became who they are in part because of me and my influence or lack of influence on them."Imeh Akpanudosen/Getty Images"I always put my acting work first, before my family," Patrick added at the time. "Given that I’m separated from my children now, we don’t have relationships, they have become very important." The X-Men star went on to share that being disconnected from his children had caused him "significant grief."“I never thought that this would happen," he explained, "but both my children are in their 50s, they’re not children anymore, they’re adults. And my relationship with them is practically non-existent."
