Patrick Mahomes to get more tests on right elbow after Sunday's injury

Published November 8, 2026 05:23 PM Chiefs quarterback Patrick Mahomes didn’t miss any offensive snaps until garbage time in Sunday’s 35-12 win over the Jets, but it looked like he might have suffered a serious injury late in the first half. Mahomes lost the football when he took a shot to the right elbow from Jets first-round pick David Bailey and he went to the sideline holding his arm in a way that led to fears of a serious injury. Mahomes grimaced while throwing on the sideline, but returned to the game after the Jets missed a field goal and then led the team to 21 points in the third quarter to put the win away. After the game, Mahomes said at his press conference that it was a scare for him and he didn’t feel great but “if I’m able to play, I’m gonna play.” He said that he wasn’t “throwing the ball the way I wanted to” after halftime, but felt better as the game went on. He’ll still be getting more tests done to make sure the injury isn’t anything bigger than something that will make him sore on Monday.“From the stories you hear, whenever you can grab the ball and try to throw it, you can’t throw,” Mahomes said. “Once I threw the football, I knew it wasn’t — hopefully, I haven’t done the test yet, it wasn’t ligament-type stuff, it was more muscle-type stuff. That’ll be important to kinda get worked out this week.”Mahomes finished the game 23-of-31 for 242 yards and two touchdowns.
