Patrick Clancy ‘anger signs’ and new wife’s secret signals explained by expert as moment he cracks on 60 Mins exposed

PATRICK Clancy’s carefully controlled demeanor began to crack as buried emotion spilled out during his first TV interview, a body language expert has revealed. The grieving dad spoke on 60 Minutes about losing his three children at the hands of ex-wife Lindsay Clancy and the vicious conspiracy theories that have followed him since the killings. Body language expert Sean Johns, founder of BodyLytics, told The U.S. Sun that Patrick appeared to be carrying an enormous emotional burden throughout the interview. And then we started to see the cracks,” Johns said. “You’re recalling very tragic situations throughout. You could see the cognitive load of somebody trying to process and answer and trying to kind of deal with the emotions themselves and to give an interview.” Patrick had previously appeared remarkably stoic while testifying at Lindsay’s murder trial, prompting some viewers to brand him “cold” and question his frequent blinking. “Blink rate is one of those things that people associate with deception, but it’s not a sign of deception,” Johns said. “You have to look at the baseline behavior of that person and then look for changes from that baseline.” Behind the scenes, Patrick was struggling, revealing on 60 Minutes that he suffered a “massive, traumatic panic attack” as his harrowing 911 call from the night of the tragedy was about to be played in court. Most read in The Sun Johns also picked up on intimate signals when Patrick’s new wife, Dr. Rachel Danis, joined him, including the way she repeatedly looked across at him as he spoke. “She’s taking a direct look at him to see how he’s doing… which I think is a very caring gesture,” Johns said. The expert also saw the couple matching each other’s body language as they both sat with their hands clasped together. That’s what people do when they’re very closely connected to each other,” Johns claimed. Patrick’s apparent ease with Rachel beside him was another significant sign, according to Johns. “That’s somebody very confident that you trust around you,” he said. “So I would say they were a unit, right. So for me, it felt like they were definitely on the same wavelength for sure.” But their reactions differed slightly as they revealed they were starting a family, with Johns describing Rachel as smiling like a proud mother-to-be. Patrick was also positive about their future, but Johns noticed an intriguing mismatch as he spoke affirmatively while shaking his head from side to side. “He’s saying yes, but he’s shaking his head no,” Johns said. The grieving dad then said he “can’t wait” to tell their child about their late brothers and sister. “I think he was thinking like, how am I going to tell my children about this in the future?” Johns said. “And I could see a disconnect there.” Lindsay strangled Cora, five, Dawson, three, and eight-month-old Callan with exercise bands inside the family’s Duxbury, Massachusetts, home in January 2023. Her defense argued she was not criminally responsible because she was suffering from postpartum psychosis, but her murder trial ended in a mistrial earlier this month after jurors failed to reach a unanimous verdict. Prosecutors have not yet revealed if she will stand trial again. Johns said Patrick’s posture offered another indication of the pressure he appeared to be under. “His body weight looked like it was defying and fighting gravity, which is a classic of somebody under a lot of stress,” he said. The strongest emotional shift came as Patrick recalled desperately hoping baby Callan would survive after his two older children had already died. “It looked like a man that had been trying to hold it together, couldn’t hold it together any longer,” Johns said. Patrick compressed and licked his lips as his breathing became so heavy it could be heard. “You could actually audibly hear his breathing over anything else, and you could see his shoulders go,” Johns said. “Those things combined together. That’s a cluster of behavior. That’s authentic behavior right there.” “That was the crack where it all started to come out, all the emotion,” he added. “And I think for the average viewer that you would see really a glimpse inside of what he was really thinking and feeling.” Patrick also remained hunched over with his hands clasped, barely moving as he answered questions. “What it looked like from a body language perspective was somebody not trying to take much space,” Johns said. “Making yourself small, hunched over, it looked like a man under a lot of stress and a lot of pressure.” But there was a striking contrast when Patrick discussed Lindsay, who he has repeatedly said he believes was mentally ill when she killed their children. Patrick revealed on 60 Minutes that Lindsay had never asked for his forgiveness, but said: “No. But I gave it to her.” Asked whether he detected any anger toward Patrick’s ex-wife, Johns said: “Not towards Lindsay. No.” Instead, his demeanor shifted when the conversation turned to the conspiracy theories and online trolls who have attacked him since the killings. “I noticed when he was talking about the kind of backlash that he was getting, there was a slight change where his wording changed to kind of more shortened sentences,” Johns said. “He had a little bit of dual tension. There was a bit of anger there about kind of perhaps not felt feeling like he was believed, and protecting his children’s legacy.” Johns said Patrick’s language suggested his frustration was focused on Cora, Dawson and Callan rather than defending himself. “I noticed the wording he used as well was very much about his children,” he said.
