(Ben Flanagan | bflanagan@al.com)Ben FlanaganBy Matt Connolly | mconnolly@pennlive.comESPN College GameDay star Pat McAfee had harsh words for the University of Utah following his trip to Salt Lake City this past weekend.McAfee said on his show Monday afternoon that he did not appreciate a post that came from the University of Utah’s Instagram page ahead of College GameDay.“Did not enjoy the University of Utah. … You know why I didn’t like it, mostly? Right before I go out there, I see the University of Utah’s Instagram page – the university’s – they ask a kid, ‘Hey, can you do an impression of Pat McAfee?’ And one kid goes, ‘Ah, he’s corny.’ Another kid calls me creepy," McAfee said.He added that if the individuals had posted their comments on their own pages, he would not have cared. However, the fact that the comments were posted on Utah’s official page upset him.“The university puts that out? Like, as I’m about to go out and do an infomercial for the place? And then I’m walking in front of thousands of these people, this is how the university feels? It’s an uncomfortable feeling,” McAfee said. “That’s something I had never experienced, really, in my entire life. It kind of set me off a little bit. It made me feel a little bit weird, I would say.”McAfee added that he did not appreciate the participant in his “Kicking Is Easy” contest being upset that she was only offered $1 million if she made the kick.“Wait, wait, wait, wait, wait,” the contestant said after hearing the kick would be for $1 million. “The BYU guy got $3 million.”McAfee replied at the time, “How about for 20 bucks this is worth?”McAfee did end up offering $1 million, but the participant was unable to connect despite getting multiple opportunities.“And then obviously the kicker goes, ‘Only one million dollars?’ It’s like, ‘Alright, I hate this place. I hate this place.’ ... I’ve never been more uncomfortable, honestly, in my life, walking in front of a group of people after watching their university put out a post basically dogging me moments before,” McAfee said.“I’ll hopefully never go that place. I think I have COVID or something whenever GameDay goes back, if I’m still a part of GameDay. But I did not enjoy the morning there. ... It was just a weird thing. … But I couldn’t wait to get the hell out of there."Matt Connolly is a Sports Trending Reporter for PennLive, writing about the NFL, college sports and other topics.
