La Compagnie’s continued operations alone surprised me given the poor track record of all-business class transatlantic startups. Dusseldorf hasn’t really worked before. Lufthansa used to fly Newark and Chicago – Dusseldorf. Chicago service ended fall 2015, and Newark transitioned to Eurowings in December 2018 and that ended with the pandemic. Dusseldorf isn’t much of a leisure destination. La Compagnie’s model has worked best with premium leisure – discount business class with a meh product, limited schedule.
