Paramedical students seek ₹15,000 monthly stipend for hospital training in Andhra Pradesh

Photo Giri KVS/ The Hindu | Photo Credit: K V S Giri Paramedical students staged a demonstration at Dr. NTR Health University of Health Sciences (Dr. NTRUHS) on Thursday (September 17, 2026) demanding the immediate resolution of their long-pending issues, including payment of stipends.Student Federation of India (SFI) State president P. Ramamohan and State secretary K. Prasanna Kumar, who took part in the demonstration, said it was highly unfair that paramedical students, who play an important role in the healthcare sector, do not receive any stipend for their work.Alleging that the government neglected their welfare, the SFI leaders demanded a minimum monthly stipend of ₹15,000 for providing services in hospitals as part of internships and clinical training.The SFI leaders raised concerns over delays in completing paramedical courses. Students who enrolled in 2021 are reportedly still awaiting completion, with four-year courses extending beyond six years.Delays in examinations and the release of results are affecting students’ higher education, employment and competitive examination opportunities, the leaders said.The SFI urged the government to ensure timely completion of courses, conduct examinations and release results without delay, while also providing stipends.The students later submitted a memorandum to Dr. NTRUHS Vice-Chancellor P. Chandrasekhar, who assured them that exam-related issues would be addressed and that the other concerns would be taken to the notice of the government. Published - September 18, 2026 10:52 am IST
