Parambikulam-Aliyar Irrigation Project Day observed in Pollachi

Minister for Backward Classes Welfare V. Sampath Kumar paying floral tributes to the statues of K. Kamaraj, V.K. Palanisami Gounder, C. Subramaniam and Pollachi N. Mahalingam in Pollachi on Wednesday, marking Parambikulam-Aliyar Irrigation Project Day. Parambikulam-Aliyar Irrigation Project Day was observed in Pollachi on Wednesday (October 7), with Minister for Backward Classes Welfare V. Sampath Kumar paying floral tributes to the statues of former Chief Minister K. Kamaraj, former MLA V.K. Palanisami Gounder, former Union Finance Minister C. Subramaniam and former MLA Pollachi N. Mahalingam on the premises of the office of Water Resources Department (WRD) Chief Engineer.Speaking to reporters after the event, Mr. Sampath Kumar said the day was observed every year on October 7, marking the commencement of the Parambikulam-Aliyar Irrigation Project on October 7, 1961. He said the observance was intended to recall the contributions of the leaders who worked for the development of the project and to spread awareness among the younger generation about the importance of water management and conservation.He said the contributions, sacrifices and vision of Mr. Kamaraj, Mr. Palanisami Gounder, Mr. Subramaniam and Mr. Mahalingam in developing the project would be remembered. A collection of photographs depicting their contributions would be displayed at the campus for public viewing, he added.Coimbatore District Collector Pavankumar G. Giriyappanavar, Pollachi MLA K. Nithiyanandhan, Pollachi Sub-Collector Ramakrishnasamy, Parambikulam-Aliyar Basin Circle Superintending Engineer Karthikeyan and officials of the Water Resources Department were among those present.Pollachi MP K. Eswarasamy and MLAs A. Kutty alias Sudhakar (Valparai), R. Jayaramakrishnan (Madathukulam) and M. Jayakumar (Udumalpet) also paid floral tributes to the leaders.Meanwhile, officials of the Public Works and Revenue departments paid floral tributes to the statue of former Water Resources Minister and Padma Bhushan awardee K.L.
