Pankaj Tripathi's Ohh My Dog release postponed. Here's why

Amit Rai’s family film Ohh My Dog, starring his son Maahi Rai and Pankaj Tripathi, has pushed its release date just days before it was set to hit cinema halls. Initially slated to release on July 31, the film will now arrive a week later, on August 7.Sources close to the film told India Today that the makers took the decision late on Sunday night after realising that most screens had already been taken up by The Odyssey and Dhamaal 4. With Spider-Man also set to release on July 31, the makers felt the competition would be too intense for a smaller film like Ohh My Dog.Since Ohh My Dog is also a family entertainer, Amit Rai felt its target audience would overlap with those of the other films. He added that without enough screens, the film’s marketing and release strategy would not unfold as planned. “It has all the potential, but it just won’t have the space,” he told India Today in a statement.Rai further said that the team decided to step aside briefly and delay the release by a week so that it could return after audiences had watched the bigger releases. “By then, there will be a little space, and we might be able to grow there. That is the very valid reason behind shifting the release,” he said. Speaking at the film’s trailer launch, Pankaj Tripathi, while responding to India Today, spoke about the importance of artists backing smaller films with meaningful stories. Emphasising that the film’s subject was more important than the size of his role, Tripathi said, “That’s why I have become a part of this film. The real stars of this film are the people telling the story, especially Amit Rai (writer-director), the child actor in the film and, of course, the canines, who are the true stars. I have simply supported the film, and I am only in a few scenes. This is not my film, but I wanted to be here today.”Calling the film a labour of conviction rather than commerce, Tripathi added, “This film has not been made to earn Rs 200 crore or become a blockbuster. It should recover its investment and reach people’s hearts. That will be its real collection.”The film also stars Pavan Malhotra and Rajesh Kumar in pivotal roles.- EndsPublished By: shweta keshriPublished On: Jul 27, 2026 10:50 IST
