Overwatch is in a strange state in the gaming world, where each update and cosmetic drop receives plenty of praise and criticism regardless of what Blizzard does. While each of these events has at least some support, the latest region-locked skin controversy is one that even diehard Overwatch fans struggle to support. As shared by Overwatch News on X, Blizzard has finally revealed a full view of all the China-exclusive skins coming to the game for D.Mon, Kiriko, Reaper, Emre, and, most notably, Shion. As if the fact that some of the coolest skins coming to the game won't even be purchasable, the sheer level of detail arriving with Shion's unprecedented transforming Evolution skin has fans up in arms over its exclusivity. Overwatch's Coolest Skins Aren't Even Purchasable After players have spent months voicing complaints over countless low-quality skins, the same heroes getting mythic skins repeatedly, and numerous recolor variants, the Defiled Anthem skins are being praised as some of the best designs the game has seen in ages, with Shion especially offering a level of quality leagues beyond a standard Mythic skin. Releasing as a partnership with NetEase, who also made the designs in the first place, Shion's Evolution skin completely changes every aspect of the character's design, coupled with all-new VFX and SFX that even manage to outshine the highest tier of Overwatch's mythic skins, let alone her upcoming Global counterpart. This isn't even the first time Overwatch has landed itself in hot water over Chinese-exclusive cosmetics either, as a similar situation happened just a few months ago, resulting in more Jetpack Cart discourse as one of the hero's best skins was entirely unavailable for most players. These Skins Would Have Set You Back Well Over $100 While it's still a massive disappointment that global fans won't even have a chance to get these skins in-game if they wanted to, it might actually be a blessing in disguise if the way to obtain them is anything to go by, as they reportedly cost over a hundred dollars to get. Rather than being able to purchase the skin outright, the Defiled Anthem cosmetics are supposedly only available through a paid gacha system, where you'll buy pulls using premium currency in order to offer a slim chance at actually getting Shion's evolution cosmetic. While each 10 pulls guarantees one legendary cosmetic, if you aren't lucky, it will reportedly cost between $125–$165 depending on which bundles you buy to obtain everything in the event, including the Shion cosmetic, as calculated by several fans on Reddit. While Chinese players have already voiced complaints over the gacha system, that likely won't stop the skins from being some of the most profitable yet, thanks to their exclusivity and creative designs.
