Over Rs 2.5 crore in cash recovered from flat in Bengal's Malda; counting still on

Officials said the cash count was still underway and the recovered amount was expected to rise.The raid was carried out at a rented apartment in Malda’s Mangalbari area. Three currency counting machines were pressed into service as officials continued to count the seized cash.A Special Operations Team, along with personnel from the Malda and South Dinajpur police, was present at the spot during the search operation.According to police sources, the raid stemmed from an earlier crackdown on July 5, 2024, when 1,500 bottles of banned cough syrup were seized from the Mehendri Para area in South Dinajpur. During interrogation, the accused revealed details about the proceeds generated through the illegal trade, leading investigators to the rented flat in Malda.Police identified the building owner as Dilip Saha. The flat on the third floor had reportedly been rented by one Pintu Sarkar, from where the cash was recovered.
