The new Outlander: Blood of my Blood season 2 trailer is here, previewing more conflict and romantic drama in the Starz series. Last year, Blood of my Blood debuted three months after the original Outlander wrapped its eight-season run. This prequel chronicles how Jamie Fraser and Claire Beauchamp’s parents met in 18th century Scotland and World War I-era England, respectively. Additionally, just like its predecessor, this newer show incorporates time travel, and the new trailer for Outlander: Blood of my Blood season 2 teases what awaits across both time periods in this next batch of episodes. At the end of Outlander: Blood of my Blood season 1, Jeremy Irvine’s Henry Beauchamp and Herminoe Corfield’s Julia Morison, who’d been transported to 18th century Scotland, were able to make it back to Craigh na Dun with their infant son William. However, on the verge of being captured by men serving Tony Curran’s Simon Fraser, Lord Lavat, i.e. Brian Fraser’s father, Julia insisted Henry go through the stone circle that enables time travel. Because of her forced marriage to Simon, she assumed she’d be safe, whereas Henry would surely be killed. So, when Outlander: Blood of my Blood season 2 begins, Julia and William are still trapped in Scotland roughly 200 years before their home time period, and they’ve had no luck returning on their own. Meanwhile, in the early 1920s, Henry has seemingly been committed to some kind of mental institution and forced to undergo electroshock treatment, possibly because no one believes his claims about time traveling. That means the young Claire presumably remains in the care of her Uncle Lamb, and Outlander fans know it will stay that way. As for Harriet Slater’s Ellen and Jamie Roy’s Brian, their romance hits a hitch with the Jacobite Uprising of 1715, in which the exiled James Francis Edward Stuart tried to seize the throne of Great Britain back for House Stuart. In real life, this conflict ended in defeat for Stuart, but for these two leading Outlander: Blood of my Blood characters, it means they can’t be married until the rebellion is over. At this point in time, Simon, and, by extension, Brian, are fighting against the Jacobites, though historically, Simon historically later aligned with them in the 1745 uprising. Outlander: Blood of my Blood scored its season 2 renewal in June 2025, two months before the series premiered. Like the original Outlander, the prequel has earned positive critical reception, with season 1 boasting an 87% Tomatometer ranking on Rotten Tomatoes. Blood of my Blood season 2 wrapped filming last December. The show’s other main cast members include Séamus McLean Ross, Sam Retford, Rory Alexander, Conor MacNeill, Brian McCardie, and Sara Vickers. Outlander: Blood of my Blood season 2 premieres Friday, September 18 on Starz. While the prequel is currently only available to stream directly from Starz or through a Starz extension on other streaming platforms, the original Outlander is available through both that method and on Netflix. It’s also been confirmed by Blood of my Blood showrunner Matthew B. Roberts that there have been talks of producing more Outlander spinoffs.
