The personnel were deployed across the 30 local government areas of the state to provide security and support during the August 15 governorship electoral process. Some personnel of the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC) deployed for the August 15, 2026 Osun State governorship election have raised concerns over the alleged delay in payment of their special duty allowance, promotion-related entitlements and other outstanding wages. The personnel were deployed across the 30 local government areas of the state to provide security and support during the August 15 governorship electoral process. However, as of August 25, 2026, some of the officers lamented that they were yet to receive the special duty allowance attached to their election assignment. Several NSCDC personnel said they were deployed to locations far from their regular places of duty, requiring them to incur additional expenses on transportation, feeding and other operational needs while carrying out their assignments. “The deployment required personnel to incur additional transportation, feeding and other operational expenses while carrying out their assigned responsibilities,” one of the officers said. SaharaReporters gathered that the payment delay has generated concern and dissatisfaction among affected personnel, particularly amid claims that personnel of some other security agencies involved in the election have already received their corresponding election duty allowances. Beyond the election allowance, some NSCDC personnel are also said to be awaiting promotion-related financial entitlements and other approved allowances. The latest concerns come months after SaharaReporters reported allegations by NSCDC personnel that promotion arrears dating from 2022 to 2024 remained unpaid. In January 2026, SaharaReporters reported that some serving NSCDC officers alleged that thousands of personnel across the country had not received arrears tied to their promotions despite repeated assurances that payments had been made. One officer claimed that personnel promoted between 2022 and 2024 were still owed outstanding arrears. The personnel also alleged that funds meant for election duties had not been fully disbursed to some officers, with one source telling SaharaReporters that “a lot of people did not get the money.” The officers had called for investigations into the alleged non-payment of their entitlements. SaharaReporters had also reported that some affected officers were reluctant to speak publicly over fears of victimisation, while the alleged delays were said to be worsening morale within the Corps. The latest complaints over the Osun election allowance have therefore renewed concerns about the welfare and timely payment of financial entitlements to NSCDC personnel. The affected personnel called on the NSCDC management and relevant Federal Government authorities to urgently clarify the status of the outstanding payments. They also sought clarification on whether funds meant for the election-related allowances have been released and, if so, why disbursement to some personnel has not been completed. The concerns raised by the personnel include the need for NSCDC authorities to verify the list of officers deployed for the August 15 Osun governorship election and confirm those eligible for the special duty allowance. They also want relevant Federal Government authorities to provide clarity on the status of funds appropriated or released for election-related allowances to NSCDC personnel. The personnel further called for the immediate resolution of any administrative, documentation or verification issues allegedly responsible for the delay. They also demanded that outstanding promotion-related financial entitlements and other approved allowances owed to eligible personnel be reviewed and paid. In addition, they urged the NSCDC management to communicate a clear payment schedule to affected personnel in order to reduce anxiety, rumours and dissatisfaction within the ranks.
