Orioles Sign Jayvien Sandridge To Minor League Deal

The Orioles announced that they have signed left-hander Jayvien Sandridge to a minor league deal for the 2027 season. He was already in the Baltimore system but was eligible for minor league free agency. Sandridge, 28 in February, began 2026 on the Yankees’ roster. He was designated for assignment in January and then flipped to the Angels for cash. The Halos designated him for assignment at the end of spring training. That led to another cash deal, this one sending him to Baltimore. The O’s kept him in the minors and then passed him through waivers in mid-April. That allowed them to keep him in a non-roster capacity but he ended up spending most of 2026 on the minor league injured list. His final appearance of the year was on May 1. It’s unclear if he’ll be healthy to begin 2027. Despite a mostly lost season, the Orioles want to keep the relationship going. Sandridge’s major league track record is tiny, consisting of one game for the 2025 Yankees. He tossed two thirds of an inning and allowed two earned runs. In the minors, he has flashed big strikeout stuff but with subpar control. From 2022 to 2025, he logged 201 1/3 innings on the farm with a 3.93 earned run average. He had a massive 17% walk rate but struck out 33.8% of batters who came to the plate. The Orioles were intrigued enough to pick up Sandridge earlier this year. He was only able to make six Triple-A appearances with a 10.13 ERA before hitting the IL but the O’s weren’t dissuaded. They liked what they saw enough to bring him back as non-roster depth for next year. Josh Walker and Grant Wolfram currently project as the top two lefty relievers in Baltimore. Neither is super established, as they each have under 80 big league innings. The O’s will probably add some more arms in the offseason, so the path back to the big leagues for Sandridge will likely change, but it’s currently not too steep.
