Orioles Place Kyle Bradish On 15-Day Injured List

Kyle Bradish’s regular season is over, as the Orioles announced that the right-hander has been placed on the 15-day injured list due to lower abdominal discomfort. Righty Yaramil Hiraldo was called up from Triple-A Norfolk to take Bradish’s spot on the active roster. Unless the O’s reach the playoffs, Bradish’s last outing of 2026 took place yesterday, in a tough outing that saw him allow five runs in three innings in the Orioles’ 7-3 loss to the Blue Jays. The 72-77 Orioles are three games behind the Guardians for the last AL wild card spot, with the Jays and Rangers also sitting between Baltimore and Cleveland. A late surge into playoff position will be even trickier for the O’s without one of their better starters, though Bradish has been looked more like a back-end rotation arm in 2026. The righty has a 4.12 ERA and below-average walk (10.5%) and strikeout (21.2%) rates over 155 innings, plus a host of other subpar Statcast metrics. That said, some inconsistency was to be expected in Bradish’s first full season back from his June 2024 Tommy John surgery. With only 71 1/3 big league innings to Bradish’s name in 2024-25, it is a good sign that Bradish has been able to toss 155 frames without any injury issues apart from this current abdominal problem. The workload may have been catching up with Bradish, as he posted a 6.95 ERA over his last five starts and didn’t pitch into the sixth inning. The Orioles felt good enough about Bradish’s durability that the club signed him to a five-year, $90MM contract extension in July. Baltimore has an off-day on Thursday, so the team could skip Bradish’s next start and just have Trevor Rogers, Brandon Young, Shane Baz, and Chris Bassitt remain on regular rest. Cade Povich is the likeliest candidate to take Bradish’s rotation spot, with Trey Gibson also a possibility, or the O’s might use multiple pitchers for bullpen games depending on the state of the relief corps.
