Organised Crime Intelligence Unit develops web application to track criminals and cases

The Organised Crime Intelligence Unit (OCIU) has indigenously developed a web-based Office Automation with Synchronised Information System (OASIS) application to digitise and monitor information related to organised criminals, their associates and criminal cases.The responsive application, developed exclusively for officers and personnel serving in the OCIU, can be accessed through computers, mobile phones and tablets using web browsers across operating systems, including Windows, Android, macOS and iOS.The application enables real-time collection and access to information on organised criminals, including their profiles, photographs, associates and rivals, cases, source reports, alerts and action-taken reports (ATRs). The information is accessed through a secure VPN firewall connection and stored on an in-house server at the OCIU headquarters.According to the OCIU, 21,186 criminal profiles, including 14,113 rowdy profiles, have so far been uploaded to the OASIS database. The database contains details of 49,535 cases registered against them.The system also contains digitised records dating back to the formation of the OCIU in 2010. These include around 1,01,500 files relating to source reports, alerts, ATRs and news articles concerning organised crimes and criminals.The OASIS application enables information on notorious criminals to be shared with jurisdictional law enforcement officers in cities and districts, facilitating follow-up action to prevent potential law and order issues and maintain public peace.Details of emerging rowdies, including their current status, history sheets and cases, are also shared with law enforcement authorities for necessary follow-up action and to prevent untoward incidents. The application is also being used to monitor daily court hearing details of emerging rowdies. District-wise reports are generated and shared with police units every day to help prevent attacks by rivals.In addition, a weekly report containing details of emerging rowdies who are inside or outside prison is generated through OASIS and shared with law enforcement officers.
