OREO is known for its iconic black and white cookies, but now, it’s switching things up (Picture: Getty Images) Whether you pull apart the OREO and enjoy the cream filling first, or bite straight into it, there’s no doubting these biscuits are a top-tier snack. For the most part, the cookies are just straight up black and white. However, there are a few flavours which break from the norm, including mint, toffee crunch, and peanut butter, of all things. Now, though, the brand has massively switched things up by launching a purple OREO cookie. It’s the first time the biscuit has shape-shifted into this vibrant colour, with a brown sugar pancake-flavoured creme inside. It’s heavily inspired by a popular South Korean dish, hotteok, a type of filled pancake which is stuffed with brown sugar and dished out as street food. They were created by none other than BTS, one of the most famous K-pop bands in the world, who each have fond memories of eating hotteok. They’ll be hitting stores on Monday, August 3, but like most good things, it’ll need to come to an end, as they’ll only be available for a very limited time. The new flavour is a BTS special (Picture: Getty/OREO/Metro) Sophia Burger, brand manager for OREO at Mondelēz International, said the biscuit has long been ‘rooted in playfulness.’ She added: ‘Our partnership with BTS takes that spirit to a global stage. Together, we have created a limited-edition cookie that celebrates BTS’s energy, their Korean roots, and the incredible connections with their fans.’ The snacks debuted in the US first, and they’ve already been branded ‘BOREOs’ by BTS fans. And it appears they’ve been heavily lusted after, as one website is selling a packet for £30, which is massively over the odds. Over on Reddit, @lisafancypants described them as ‘yummy, but so sweet.’ She added: ‘[They’re] sweeter than regular OREOs. The creme mostly tastes like brown sugar.’ ‘I do really enjoy the flavour, but like how most people said very very sweet. I ended up pairing mine with some coffee. ‘Kind of like an after-dinner thing,’ @NillaWiffle added, while @ChenoaStarr admitted to eating ‘three at a time,’ since they’re ‘extremely sweet but delicious.’ And over in the UK, they’ve already been held in high regard, as Good Housekeeping described them as ‘better than the original.’ They’ve been described as ‘sweeter’ than the regular ones (Picture: Getty Images) Other recent snack launches Elsewhere in the world of sweet snacks, Galaxy recently launched two new chocolate flavours. Galaxy Millionaire Crumble and Galaxy Cinnamon Swirl are now available in Iceland and The Food Warehouse. It also appears to be available in select Spar stores in Scotland. While the bars aren’t listed as part of the official Galaxy collection on the Mars website but multiple fans have posted pictures and videos of the new additions to the lineup. The bars are being sold in Spar for £3.39, making it the perfect treat night snack. As for M&S shoppers, they can expect to find four retro chocolate bars: the Jet, Now, Sparks and Coconut Grove. First sold as part of M&S’ 80s confectionery range, they’ll be a welcome return for those who remember snacking on them the first time around. The bars, which are priced at just £1 each, feature the St Michael logo — a brand owned and used by M&S between 1927 and 2000. The supermarket says the new chocolates build on the hype around Take 4, the four-finger wafer bar that returned to stores last winter. Do you have a story you’d like to share?
