A report emerged Friday from KATU News that prosecutors have declined to file a DUII charge against Oregon wide receiver Evan Stewart following his arrest over the weekend. A separate report from Ryan Clark of The Oregonian notes that prosecutors are awaiting delivery of evidence. Clark quoted the Springfield Police Department deputy chief, George Crolly: “The prosecutor has not dismissed charges. The prosecutor has not filed charges as they are awaiting evidence.” [ $19.99 gets you a FULL year of On3 | Rivals national coverage ] Stewart was arrested and booked on a DUII charge on Sunday morning. He was released about an hour later to teammate Dakorien Moore, according to Hallie DeVore of KATU. Oregon coach Dan Lanning had held off on publicly announcing any potential punishment for Evan Stewart in light of the arrest. He commented on Monday evening, with an opening statement for reporters ahead of his press conference. “Just to start things off first, obviously there’s an incident this weekend that didn’t match our standard here in our program,” Lanning said. “There will be appropriate action taken, still gathering some details what the situation looks like. But that will be handled internally. I’m not going to respond to any other questions about that. I’m going to handle that with our guys. “There’s an expectation of how you have to act and how you need to perform in our program. Kind of overshadows the success that we had on Saturday, which is disappointing. But that will be handled by us internally and it’s not something I’m going to speak on publicly going forward.” The Springfield (Ore.) Police Department had released a “narrative of incident” on Monday, as well. It named “Evan Stewart” in the report, as far as the arrest was concerned. “On October 18th, 2026, at approximately 5 AM, an SPD Officer conducted a traffic stop on Hwy. 126 near Mohawk Blvd. During the stop, the officer suspected driver impairment and initiated a DUI investigation. The officer developed probable cause to arrest Evan Stewart for DUII. He was transported to the Springfield Municipal Jail, where he was lodged. “Earlier in the morning, SPD was involved in a vehicle pursuit involving speeding vehicles in the west Centennial area of Springfield. SPD terminated that pursuit. The investigation into that incident is continuing. Stewart has no suspect involvement in that incident.” Stewart did not play in Saturday’s 17-14 win over Nebraska as he went into the day “doubtful” on the injury report. Stewart has caught 27 passes for 352 yards and four touchdowns through five games this season. He’s brought in a touchdown in each of his last four games, including in his last outing, against UCLA, where he caught five passes for 74 yards and the score. This is his third year and second season on the field in Eugene after transferring in ahead of the 2024 season. He did not play in 2025 after suffering an injury that held him out. In 2024, he caught 48 passes for 613 yards and five touchdowns. Oregon is set to face Illinois on the road in a game that kicks off at 3 p.m. ET Saturday on the Big Ten Network. On3’s Nick Kosko also contributed to this report.
