Oprah Winfrey Is Coming To Sphere

The Las Vegas venue Sphere opened with a much-hyped U2 residency in 2023, and its booking since then has been extremely strange — classic rock acts like Dead & Company and Eagles, EDM DJ Anyma, Kenny Chesney, Backstreet Boys, No Doubt, Metallica, an AI-heavy version of The Wizard Of Oz. Things probably won't get any less weird next year, when Oprah Winfrey takes over the venue for a weekend.Next April, Sphere will host Oprah Winfrey's AHA, which a press release describes as "a brand-new visual, musically immersive symphony of senses" and also a "journey of light, sound, music, storytelling, nature and shared humanity." It's not a concert, exactly, though musicians will be involved. Winfrey will be onstage for the two-hour spectacle, which will include performances from Grammy-fave jazz-pop polymath Jacob Collier, new age folk musician Ajeet, and gospel singer Wintley Phipps, as well as poet and author Ocean Vuong. The show will include musical direction from ambient composers Max Richter and Jon Hopkins, and Sunday Service Choir master Jason White, as well as writing from Moonlight screenwriter Tarell Alvin McCraney and original works by artist Es Devlin. Sounds weird! Here's what Oprah herself says about whatever this is:"AHA" is a dream that came to me as I sat in awe at the opening night of U2 at the Sphere, mesmerized by the possibilities of how the space could be used as a tool for creating greater awareness and understanding of ourselves and our connection to each other. Creating this experience has felt like the culmination of what I’ve spoken about and worked towards my entire life.Good for her? The show comes to Sphere 4/2-4, and tickets start at $145. Make your spring travel plans accordingly.
