OpenAPV Sees Big Update For Advancing The Advanced Professional Video Codec

OpenAPV as the open-source reference implementation of the Advanced Professional Video (APV) codec today saw its v1.1.1 release, succeeding v0.3.0 as the prior release. OpenAPV v1.1.1 succeeds v0.3.0. The non-traditional version jump is described in today's release announcement for bumping its API set version while still retaining backwardss compatibility with OpenAPV v0.x: "OpenAPV versions are APISET.MAJOR.MINOR.PATCH. The first component is the API set, not a semantic-versioning major. v0.3.0.0 was the last release of API set 0; this is the first release that carries API set 1. API set 0 is unchanged and remains fully supported. Nothing was removed." With the new OpenAPV release it introduces PBU-based decoding. There are also new profiles with smaller tiles to benefit more parallelism and finer-grained partial decoding. OpenAPV 1.1.1 also adds custom memory allocator support so you can use an alternative memory allocator to keep the codec off the C library heap. OpenAPV also adds new AVX2 and ARM NEON optimizations, cleanup of SIMD kernel code, and other robustness enhancements. Downloads and more details on the OpenAPV 1.1.1 release via GitHub.
