The Nouveau Linux kernel graphics driver for open-source NVIDIA driver support has new patches posted for enabling HDMI Deep Color support. HDMI Deep Color support allows for higher color bit depths of 10, 12, or 16 bits per color channel. These patches, which were created with the help of "AI partners", gets the HDMI Deep Color support working atop Nouveau as the main open-source NVIDIA Linux driver until Nova is ready for prime-time. The Nouveau patches for HDMI Deep Color currently only support RGB without YCbCr being supported for now. The 16-bit per channel support also hasn't been tested on a capable display. In any event for those interested with capable deep color displays there are now HDMI Deep Color patches posted on the dri-devel mailing list for those interested in this fucntionality.
