If you are wondering how difficult it is to complete Onimusha: Way Of The Sword, our answer would be: just right. It's not a super-hard game to complete, but it's not just going to hand you the Platinum Trophy or the 1000 gamerscore without a bit of effort. You're going to have to learn a few mechanics, finish some side-content and when you're done, do another playthrough of the game.With all that said, we had an absolute blast playing through Capcom's samurai-simulator, and we're here to share how we earned all achievements / trophies and how you can do the same too. While Onimusha: Way Of The Sword is not a very long game, you're looking at two full playthroughs - one on any difficulty and one on Carnage (Hardest) difficulty (spoiler alert: It's not that difficult).Below is a list of each trophy/achievement in the game and a short guide on how to obtain them. Achievement/Trophy Description Guide Onimusha Shakedown Drive off Sasaki Ganryu. Story related. Pretty easy. Just parry his attacks and dodge when he does the drop-kick. May take you a few attempts, but that's only because you're still learning the ropes. Get This Thing Off Me Absorb 30 or more souls at once. You'll likely get this one without even realizing. You should get this after a large group fight, which happens quite often. Just wait till the end of the fight before you absorb the souls. Get Stuffed Defeat Daidara. Story related. Looking Sharp Enhance a piece of equipment for the first time. Story related. You'll be asked to upgrade a piece of equipment shortly after returning to Eastern Kyoto, and you'll be upgrading your equipment during the entire game. So, honestly, this is impossible to miss. Twisted Fates Defeat Rasho-gan. Story related. Pretty easy boss. Two phases, but on both you just deflect his attacks and dodge his charge. Berserker Defeat 3 enemies with continuous Break Issen attacks. When you're fighting a group of enemies (about five of them), drain the stamina of two enemies and let them live, then do the same for the third enemy, but kill it, and you will do a Break Issen on the other two enemies. Super easy, and satisfying. Howling Wind Defeat Ifuu. Story related. Not a difficult fight. Deflect his heavy attacks, and when he starts to suck up things, shoot his backpack with an arrow. You'll fight him again later in the game, but he will be tougher and with company. Life-Saver Complete your first Chance Encounter. Finish a side-quest (they are marked with a little film reel icon on the map). Dokyo's Fixation Defeat the Greater Nue. Story related and somewhat difficult. Prioritize dodges instead of parries and deflects. Shoot the tail off with your arrow to make the fight easier. Reflex Dodge helps a lot in this fight. No Dog Left Behind Rescue your first Lion Dog. Approach a corrupted Lion Dog and purify it. All dogs will be marked on your map, so no need to look aimlessly for them. Mystery solved Complete your first Mystery of Kyoto. Do a side-story (they are marked with a golden butterfly symbol on the map). Second Helping Beat an opponent in a Boss Rematch. In Takamura's Training Ground, select "Boss Rematch" and fight one of the bosses you already fought in the game, and simply beat them again. Winning Is What Matters Carry out 50 attacks with environmental objects. Often, when you are fighting groups of enemies, you'll see things like carts, explosive barrels, large planks, or Genma Towers on the battlefield. Approach and use these to take out enemies. You'll likely get this one naturally during your first playthrough. A Real Charmer Enhance a charm to the maximum level. Upgrade any charm at Enma's Hall (Takamura's estate) by a single level. You need Red Souls and Favor. Benkei: Out, but Not Down Defeat Benkei. Story related. Seems harder than it is. Benkei's attacks are strong but easy to avoid. Deflect his spear attacks, and dodge his limb attacks, and you should be good. May take a few attempts, but it's not a very difficult fight. Crashing Lightning Defeat Burai. Story related. Ifuu's brother. Dodge his lightning and deflect his weapon attacks. Somewhat harder than Ifuu, but nothing to worry about. You'll fight him and his brother again together, later in the game. Helm Splitter Break 100 shields or pieces of enemy armor. When an enemy is holding a shield or has dodged 3 or more attacks at once, you need to do the armor-break attack (Heavy attack + dodge). You'll likely get this one naturally as you go through the game. Serves You Right Defeat the Byakue at Kiyomizu-dera Temple. One of the side-quests will take you here. Simply defeat the Byakue and this trophy/achievement will pop. You'll fight a lot of Byakue in the game so... get used to it. Burning Blade Defeat 50 foes while in the Blazing State. When you parry a couple attacks, your sword will glow blue and you will do more damage. That's the Blazing State. Defeat 50 enemies like this. Should come through natural progression. Untouchable Perform 50 Grab Reversals. When an opponent's hand sizzles and glows blue, press dodge just as they are about to grab you to do a Grab Reversal. Again, you should get this naturally as almost every enemy in the game likes to use the grab attack. Coming Through! Break an enemy's guard 50 times. Deplete your enemy's stamina. You don't even have to kill them. Will come naturally through the game. Selfish Selflessness Rescue a merchant that's being attacked by Genma. While exploring Eastern Kyoto, you'll run into people attacked by Genma who will scream for help. One of these will be a merchant. There's nothing special about them, so just keep saving people until this one pops. Wide Awake Defeat Shutten Doji. Story related. A two-phased fight, with a checkpoint. Use dodge to avoid the fire attacks and get familiar with using Oni Awakening. May take a few attempts until you learn the attacks. The Perfect Storm Defeat Iffu and Burai. Story related. Can be a bit tough. Focus on Iffu first and deflect Burai when he attacks. Make sure you use an arrow attack or deflect their joined attacks. Will likely take you a few attempts until you get the hang of it. Brutalist Land 50 Issen attacks. Use either light or heavy attack just before an enemy hits you to do an Issen attack. You can practice this in the Training Grounds as it's hard to do. Much easier to pull off in Oni form. Health Is Wealth Enhance a Hozuki Pouch to the maximum level. Visit Okuni and upgrade the same Hozuki Pouch twice to get this trophy/achievement. You need a special material for each type of Hozuki Pouch and they are all marked on your map. We Done Here? Defeat Sasaki Ganryu at Arashiyama. Story related. This will be the third time you fight Ganryu. He is pretty much the same as the second time, except a little tougher. Deflect his attacks, dodge his stomps and you should be good. End This Madness Defeat Dokyo Story related. Feels more like a bullet-hell than a boss fight. Dodge everything and deflect the spinning spiked ball and it's an easy win. Nice change of pace from regular bosses in this game. Deadeye Score 100 headshots with your bow. Once you upgrade the bow a bit, you may actually use it more than your sword to clear weak enemies. Land 100 headshots (usually an insta-kill). This one should come naturally. Stop Motion Perform 50 Reflex Combos When you dodge at the very last second, you build up for a Reflex Combo. Use the Reflex Combo 50 times and this one will pop. You should get this one naturally. Baited by Benkei Defeat Benkei at Rendaino Story related after the point-of-no-return. Benkei is much tougher and has two phases. Dodge his fire attacks, deflect his spears, and try not to get hit. Will probably take you a few attempts. Silent Violence Assassinate 20 enemies. Approach weak enemies from behind to insta-kill them. Do this 20 times and the trophy is yours. Demystified Complete all Mysteries of Kyoto. Complete all Mysteries of Kyoto side-quests. You can do this before or after the final boss, or even in your second playthrough. Pinch Hitter Deflect 50 projectiles. Wait for a Genma archer to shoot an arrow at you and deflect it back at him at the last second. Super easy and super satisfying to do. Truly, Thank You Defeat Minamoto no Yoshitsune Story related. A very challenging final boss with three phases and no checkpoints. Will likely take you a bit of time to master. Oni Armory Acquire all Oni Armaments Each Oni Armament is hidden along the main path but can be missed if you aren't careful. No Job Too Small Complete all Chance Encounters. Complete all Chance Encounter side-quests in the game. Can be done before and after the second boss or in your second playthrough. For the Love of Dog Rescue all the Lion Dogs. All Lion Dogs are marked on your map. Many of them are in the areas outside Eastern Kyoto so you'll likely need to backtrack a little. The Winding Way of the Sword Learn and upgrade all basic or special skills. Unlike Well-Rounded, you only need to learn either all Basic or all Special Skills to get this one. Wielder of Oni Armaments Defeat 100 enemies with Oni Armaments Use your armaments on 100 enemies. The Wind-Whipper is the easiest for farming kills. Dressed to Kill Enhance all equipment to the maximum level. Simply upgrade your Weapon, Clothing, and Gauntlet to level 5. You'll need lots of upgrade items. WARNING: Your equipment enchants reset in your second playthrough, so get them in your first unless you want to farm them all again. Well-Rounded Learn and upgrade all basic and special skills. You'll likely get most of the upgrades during your first playthrough, but if you're missing some, don't worry as they carry to your second playthrough. All Oni Stones and Power stone locations reset in your second playthrough, so just get them again. Oni's Oni Defeat 50 enemies in the Oni Awakened state. Use Oni Awakening and kill 50 enemies (preferably weaker ones). You can farm this one along with Brutalist and Flow State. Citizen Savior Rescue 30 townspeople from marauding Genma. Kind of annoying and should be done post-game. Walk loops around the streets surrounding Takamura's shrine and save any NPC you come across. Flow State Defeat 50 enemies with Chain Issen attacks. Press the light or heavy attack the same second as you land an Issen attack to follow it to another enemy. Best farmed while in Oni form. Medical Marvel Enhance all Hozuki Pouches to the maximum level. Best done post-final boss. You need the same upgrade for your equipment plus the special Hozuki upgrade materials (marked on your map). All Hozuki upgrades also carry over to the second playthrough, so you can farm the rest there if you want. Genma Griller Set three enemies ablaze at once. Fully upgrade the Flamebird Flute armament, find a group of weak enemies huddled together, charge the Flamebird Flute and fire at one of them. Easy to do on unsuspecting enemies. Charmed Life Enhance all charms to the maximum level. Upgrade all charms at Enma's Hall to level 3. You'll have all charms after finishing all side-quests. If you need more Favor, you can rescue townspeople or buy more offering items at Yorimasa's shop. Genma-ologist Collect all the Genma notes. Just loot all chests in Eastern Kyoto and return to each boss location for the boss notes. The Yoshitsune note is behind Takamura's shrine after you beat him. True Onimusha Complete the game on difficulty level "Carnage". After you finish the game, start a new one and select this difficulty (make sure you load your completed save). Carnage is just a bit more difficult than Combat difficulty, as enemies hit harder, but you'll have your upgrades from the first playthrough. Glutton for Punishment Beat all Boss Rematch opponents on all difficulty levels. Best saved after you finish the game again on Carnage. Visit Takamura's shrine and re-fight each boss (including Yoshitsune) on the hardest difficulty. Peerless Unlock all achievements. The Platinum Trophy. You get it after getting all other trophies.
