‘One of the kindest’ – tributes pour in as former Group 1 winning jockey dies

Lowe, who rode over 2000 winners worldwide during a 32-year career, passed away at the age of 75. He rode Goodbye Shelley to victory in the Group 1 Prix Marcel Boussac held at Paris Longchamp in 1982. The horse, who was trained by Yorkshireman Steve Norton, caused a huge upset at a price of 36-1. Following the sad news of his passing, racing fans have paid tribute to Lowe on social media. One wrote: “John Lowe an amazing light weight jockey and superb judge and above all one of the kindest men I have ever interviewed in and out of the industry. RIP you lovely man.” A second said: “Sad to hear about the news of the passing of John Lowe. A close colleague for 20 years. A very good man.
