One more person held in murder of SI in Nungambakkam

Devanathan. | Photo Credit: Special arrangement The Greater Chennai Police have arrested another person in connection with the murder of a Sub-Inspector (SI) of the Armed Reserve Motor Transport Wing, after his wife was arrested in the case.On Saturday, based on information received by the police control room, a police team rushed to a house on First Street, Lake Area, Nungambakkam, and found the body of a man with burn injuries. He was identified as Raj, an SI attached to the Armed Reserve Motor Transport Wing of the Greater Chennai Police. The body was recovered and a case was initially registered under the suspicious death section at the Nungambakkam police station.During the investigation, the police questioned Raj’s wife, Selvarani, 31. The police said she told them that her husband had subjected her to physical and mental abuse. According to the police, Selvarani, with the help of her friend Devanathan, 28, mixed sleeping pills in Raj’s food. The police said Selvarani then asked Devanathan to procure petrol. After Raj became unconscious, the duo allegedly poured petrol over him and set him on fire before shutting the door and going to the first floor. Devanathan allegedly fled the scene on a two-wheeler.The case was subsequently altered to a murder case. The body was sent to to the Kilpauk Medical College Hospital for a post-mortem examination.Selvarani was arrested on Sunday (September 20, 2026). The police seized a mobile phone from her, and she was produced before a court and remanded in judicial custody. Special teams searched for Devanathan at several locations, and he was arrested in Chennai on Monday (September 21, 2026).
