One dead and four wounded after stabbing at Catholic convent in Poland

A stabbing at a Catholic convent in Poland on Thursday left one person dead and four others wounded, authorities said. Police detained a suspect following the incident in a southeastern town in Poland.Police said they were made aware of the stabbing on the grounds of the Benedictine Sisters monastery on the ground of the abbey in Jarosław at around 9.30 am local time (0730 GMT). Four men and a woman were stabbed.The victims were rushed to a hospital, with three of the men suffering serious injuries. Police later confirmed that one of the men had died, Polish news agency PAP reported."We are aware that Father Stanisław has passed away and Father Marek is in serious condition; there are other casualties, but we do not have further details," Sister Barbara Dendor told state broadcaster TVP Info."When I arrived, there was total panic; young people who had come out of the center witnessed it — they were saying, 'Some madman, some madman!'" she said.Police, who said that they had been alerted to a stabbing by a Ukrainian citizen, said that a 31-year-old foreign national was detained as a suspect at the scene. They were investigating what exactly happened and what the motive may have been.
