On Militarie Gun’s Tour And The Alternative Rock Pivot

Let's talk about the Militarie Gun double-grunt. I first heard it as "oof oof" or maybe "roo roo," but apparently it was always "ooh ooh." I know this because they printed "ooh ooh" on the back of a T-shirt once. That sound is Militarie Gun's catchphrase, their signature. When they play live now, they build up to every "ooh ooh," and the crowd shouts it right along with them. It does the same thing to my brain as the phrase "JUST BLAAAAZE." That "ooh ooh" is such a righteous primal exclamation, and it's the reason that Militarie Gun will always belong in a hardcore column, even as the band seems to take active steps away from hardcore and into the even more loosely defined realm of alternative rock.
