Ombudsman seeks P7.23-billion budget for 2027

Speaking to reporters after the House budget deliberations on Tuesday, August 25, Ombudsman Jesus Crispin “Boying” Remulla said the office needs additional marshals and office space for its lawyers to allow them to work more effectively. The Ombudsman Marshal is a security group, similar to the Supreme Court’s Office of the Judiciary Marshals. The Office of the Ombudsman is also seeking P57.47 million in confidential funds. In its National Expenditure Program, the Office of the Ombudsman has four programs with the following proposed budget: Anti-corruption Investigation Program: P913.23 million Anti-corruption Enforcement Program: P716.46 million Ombudsman Public Assistance Program: P266.21 million Corruption Prevention Program: P208.91 million Since late 2025, the Ombudsman’s office has been leading the investigation into public officials with alleged links to multi-billion flood control corruption. During the budget hearing, Remulla said his office is looking into Davao City as a possible “epicenter” of the flood control corruption during the previous Duterte administration. He said huge amounts of funding for flood control projects were allegedly poured into the city, the main bailiwick of the Dutertes – political foes of President Ferdinand Marcos Jr..
